Experience that informs my practice

I’m a Registered Psychotherapist with more than 20 years of experience working in health care, including rehabilitation and palliative care. Throughout my career, I’ve worked with people and families facing significant illness, injury, trauma, loss, and major life changes—experiences that can affect not only an individual’s well-being, but also their relationships.

My clinical work today focuses on helping individuals and couples navigate trauma, anxiety, depression, chronic pain, and the relational impact of motor vehicle accidents and personal injury. I understand what can happen to a relationship when one or both partners are struggling with the effects of trauma, injury, or a prolonged recovery.

Drawing on evidence-based psychotherapy as well as Relational Life Therapy (RLT)–informed principles, I help couples understand the patterns that develop between them, take greater responsibility for their part in those patterns, and develop more effective ways of communicating, connecting, and responding to one another.

My professional work has also extended beyond clinical practice. I have published numerous research articles and am the author of How to Be an Even Better Listener, a book exploring the practice of listening, empathy, compassion, and meaningful human connection. Read the book on Google Books. I have also produced I Hear You!, a short film exploring trauma and its impact on individuals and relationships. Watch I Hear You! on Vimeo. View the film on Shorted.

These experiences have shaped how I understand psychotherapy: not simply as treating symptoms, but as helping people make sense of what has happened, develop new ways of responding, and rebuild connection and a sense of possibility.

Whether you are seeking individual therapy after an accident or trauma, or couples therapy because what you have been through has changed your relationship, I offer a thoughtful, collaborative, and compassionate space to begin that work.

When an accident changes a relationship,

you don't have to navigate the changes alone.
